Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 20: Upholding discrimination with Jammu province, the government is set to hold a mega FAM (Familiarization) tour to promote tourism in Kashmir where as no such program is on the cards for the other province including the winter capital.
Official sources said the Tourism department is all set to host a 3-day Familiarization (FAM) tour of about 100 delegates from travel and media industry for Kashmir. Sources said the tour will begin from 25 October 2018 in an effort to "remove negative perception about Kashmir."
Sources said the government is scheduled to spent around Rs one crore on the event. Official sources said a variety of prominent personalities from across the country and abroad are being invited for the event.
It was reliably learnt that the visiting delegates will include journalists, bloggers, writers, tour operators of national and international repute who will be made to tour across Kashmir.
Source said apart from boarding at lodging at five star hotels the visiting dignitaries would be offered to and fro air travel and luxurious transport facility.
Sources said the people from tourism industry in Kashmir have already been roped in to accommodate the guests and make them "fell best in the Valley."
The government money to be spent on the function is expected to benefit the tourism industry in Kashmir.
Sources said the government hopes that the visiting delegates will highlight about their experience through print, electronic, and the social media campaigns.
Sources said the government recently discussed promotion of tourism in Kashmir at a high level meeting but that ironically nobody spoke about holding of similar events in Jammu province.
A tourism player from Jammu said it would have been better for the government to have kept FAM tour for both the regions of the state.
"By promoting Kashmir alone as the tourism destination, successive regimes over the years failed to accept that Jammu has no less potential for tourism. But the irony is that there continues be an unending discrimination with this neglected region," said the tourism player.
When contacted a senior official said the FAM tour was being held by Tourism Kashmir and that if Jammu also wants a similar event the Tourism directorate for the region should plan on similar lines.
Meanwhile the well meaning voices in Jammu have appealed Governor SP Malik to personally look into the matter.
