Mehbooba plays communal card to keep PDP relevant
Forgets WPRs in J&K have not been granted citizenship rights for being Hindus

Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 11: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the President of Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti has once again played a communal card by criticizing the decision of the BJP led NDA government to grant citizenship to nationals from three neighbouring countries on the basis of religion.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Mehbooba is trying to polarize the environment in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary and assembly polls in the state."
He said that someone needs to remind Mehbooba that West Pakistan Refugees and others have been living in Jammu region since 1947 but till date they have not been granted the citizenship for only one reason that majority of them belong to a particular religion.
Taking to micro blogging site Twitter on Friday, Mehbooba, who headed a coalition government with BJP for about three years, said, "Granting citizenship on the basis of religion is appalling and disgusting in equal measure. We are full of venom when it comes to Pakistan but are matching some of its policies in spirit."
A politician said that when Mehbooba was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir she never raised the issue of West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs). "She never said that these people need to be given the respect they deserve. These poor people have been living like second grade citizens despite spending more than 70-years in Jammu region."
He said that on the contrary the PoK women who got married to the Kashmiri militants, who had crossed over to other side of LoC for arms training, and returned after two decades had become a point of contention. Many PDP leaders were demanding that these women should be given the citizenship rights and the militants who had returned be rehabilitated. "The PDP leaders were pleading the cause of the people who had crossed over to PoK to return with guns and challenge the country," the politician added.
A Kashmir watcher said, "Today Mehbooba Mufti is lamenting that people of a particular religion from other countries have been granted citizenship. Someone should remind her that India is a big country with a large heart and it has granted citizenship to Pakistani artists like Adnan Sami also."
He said that Mehbooba and her party are at crossroads and t they are looking for "petty issues" to remain relevant. "PDP leaders know it very well that they have lost the ground in Jammu and Kashmir. Now they are playing a communal card to appease hardliners in Kashmir so that they can help them garner votes on the name of religion," the Kashmir watcher added.
