Abdullahs and Muftis-style hurting Kashmiris outside Kashmir
2/19/2019 11:40:57 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: Kashmiri students studying outside Kashmir have been at the receiving end in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack. They are feeling threatened. Some of them have returned to Kashmir, while many others are on the way to Kashmir. The number of such students runs into thousands with some of the institutions saying no Kashmiri would be admitted to these institutions in future. The house owners in different parts of the country, including Uttrakhand, have asked Kashmiri students to vacate their houses, saying there was the possibility of people attacking their houses. Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttrakhand and many other states have been witnessing a situation that the Kashmiri students considers "unsafe for them". Some of the educational institutions have suspended many Kashmiri students, including Engineering and Medical students, on the ground that posted anti-India posts. Even some of the girl students were Kashmir have been shown the door.
The J&K Government has taken note of what has been happening outside Kashmir and talked to the powers-that-be in these states so that peace was restored and Kashmiri students felt secure.
On his part, NC president Farooq Abdullah has talked to the Chief Ministers of Punjab, Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh and urged them to take care of students of Kashmir. On the other hand, NC vice-president Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti have forgotten all the differences between them and issued a joint appeal.
In their joint appeal, both the former CMs have asserted that by "attacking, terrorizing, intimidating Kashmiris, youngsters are implicitly being told that they have no future outside of the Valley". They have urged the Centre to "ensure the safety and security of Kashmiris in the country in the aftermath of the Pulwama incident" and added that "intimidating Kashmiris is aimed at creating a wedge between different communities". On Sunday, Omar Abdullah had asked, "have Kashmiris no place outside Kashmir to live and make their future there"?
Abdullahs, Muftis and others of their ilk themselves are responsible for the prevailing situation in Jammu and the rest of the country. Indeed, Kashmiri have all rights all over India. Had Kashmiri leaders promoted democracy in the Valley, things in Kashmir and the rest of the country would have been different. There is still time for them to reform themselves and help retrieve the situation.
