TANGMARAG, Sept 3 : The in-laws have been arrested after it was\ established that the woman had been set ablaze and had not committed suicide as was thought earlier here in Tangmarag area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir.
According to the sources that deceased lady tried hard to convince her in laws and told them that her parents were poor and they are not in a position to fulfil their needs .however, the greedy people had no concern about it and they had decided to kill her.
Deceased lady visited her parent’s home few days before her death and she was not aware that this would be her last visit to her parent’s home. She would not have dreamt that this would be her last meeting with her parents and her brothers as well as sisters uncle said.
But the woman’s parents had raised questions over the suicide claim. The parents said that the woman was set ablaze in absence of her husband. “She was caught by her in-laws including her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and mother-in-law in the absence of her husband who was visiting us in Gonipora.
“Kashmir has been hogged by many social issues and one of these issues is dowry. Over the years many innocent lives have been lost on account of greed of some of people. There seems to be no end to the deaths on account of dowry, but strangely the society is yet to awake to this glaring social problem old aged father of the deceased lady said.
The deceased sensing trouble had ringed her husband,Ghulam Mohi Ud Din Chopan of Chopan Mohalla Ferozpora but by the time he along with the girl’s brother and parents reached to save her she had been set ablaze and none of ‘her in-laws had tried to save her’.
“She was rushed to hospital only when her parents, brother and husband reached her after she had told them about her apprehensions over phone,” a police official maintained.
According to top official, “Earlier it was reported that the 21-year-old woman committed suicide following some family dispute but investigations have brought out a different story.
A greedy family sprinkled kerosene on their daughter- in-law and watched her burn in the flames, the preliminary investigations have revealed official said.
Official said that on Thursday, last week, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din had gone for a night to his in-laws house with his son. The woman on Friday morning is said to have phoned her husband complaining of repeated assaults by in-laws.
According to parents of the deceased that police assured them of punishing the guilty under law and advised them not to retaliate unlawfully but wait for the arrests of the accused.
