SRINAGAR, Nov 6 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other union ministers will campaign for BJP candidates in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, beginning November 25. "PM will be party's star campaigner in the State Assembly polls. He will campaign for party candidates in Kashmir as well in Jammu in the Assembly polls," BJP MP and party Incharge for J&K, Avinash Rai Khanna told over phone. PM is expected to join the campaign after returning from visit of Australia, Fiji and Myanmar later this month. "The dates of PM Modi's visit have not been finalised yet but it is a fact that he will be campaigning for party candidates both in Jammu province and Kashmir region," Khanna said. He said PM will address the election rallies in the State after each phase of election. Five-phase election will be held for 87-member J&K Assembly beginning November 25. The last and final phase will be held on December 20 and counting of votes will be held on December 23. Khanna said party president Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, BJP senior leader Mukhtaq Abbas Naqvi and other leaders will campaign for party candidates in the State. The BJP has 11 legislators in the Assembly and it is for the first time in the history of J&K that the right wing party has set a "Mission 44+" for forming the government in the state. The party has so far announced names of 49 candidates including 17 Muslims for the Assembly polls. On when will party release manifesto for the J&K Assembly polls, Khanna said, "It will be released after announcing mandate of all the party candidates". On whether it will touch Article 370, West Pakistan refugees issue and other sensitive issues, "Every issue concerning the State will figure in the manifesto". Asked whether BJP will contest all 87-seats in the State, Khann said, "We will contest almost all seats. However, we may leave out some seats for nationalist candidates". The party is holding talks with separatists-turned-mainstream leader Sajjad Gani Lone and leaders, who are part of Third Front. Sajjad has got some clout in border district of Kupwara, which has five Assembly seats. "People this time want change in the State and we are hopeful that voters will vote for BJP, which is only party that is respected across Jammu and Kashmir," added Khanna. |
