Water bodies in Leh freezes, Min dips to minus 7.1 degree | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 6 : All water bodies, including lakes, were frozen in Leh of Ladakh region where the coldest night of the winter was recorded so far after the minimum temperature dropped to minus 7.1 degres Celsius. Icy cold winds continued today in the Valley. A Met department spokesman said there could be light rain or thundershowers at isolated places during next 24 hours. During the subsequent four days, there could be scattered to fairly widespread rain or snow, he said. The Water Works department has already stopped its supply through pipes which were also frozen because of cold. However, water was being supplied through tankers and people were using spring water, which remained warm during winter and cold in summer. At border town of Kargil, on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, which was through so far, the minimum temperature was minus 2.7 degres. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir, was the coldest place in the valley as the minimum temperature was sub-zero temperature, a notch below normal. Famed health resort of Pahalgam recorded 1 degree night temperature which was above normal. Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir and Kokernag recorded below normal minimum temperature while it was two notches above normal at Kupwara, a border district in north Kashmir. In Srinagar, icy cold winds continued. The minimum, however, was 6.4 degree, more than three notches above normal. |
