67th Army day celebrated across Jammu, Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 15: Indian Army celebrated 67th Army day across Jammu and Kashmir, to commemorate the day, when Gen (later Field Marshal) K M Cariappa became the first Commander-in-Chief of Indian Armed Forces after Independence, taking over the command of Armed Forces from Gen Sir F R R Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief, in 1949. Chinar Corps organized a number of activities at Bandipur including, Bandipur Premier League in which 16 teams from villages around Bandipur participated. The final of the tournment was played today between Bandipur Cricket Club and Watapura Eleven in which Bandipur Cricket Club defeated and became Bandipur Champions. The prizes were given by Commanding Officer 14 Rashtriya Rifles , DC Bandipur and SSP Bandipur. Meanwhile, on the occasion, Golden Arrow Division organized "Know Your Army Mela", to showcase the capabilities and achievements of the Indian Army as also to motivate the youth for joining the Armed Forces. According to press release, the Melas were conducted at various places including Ferozepur, Bareke Village, Mamdot, Hazara Singh Wala Village, Jalalabad and Kapurthala. The weaponry and equipment of the Army including armoured vehicles were displayed. In addition, the public were enthralled by the martial tunes played by military bands. In Rajouri, 25 Infantry Division celebrated Army Day by organizing a 'health awareness run at Rane Hawai Patti (Advance landing ground) which was flagged off by Maj Genal Saranjeet Singh, GOC of the Division. While interacting with the people, civil dignitaries, senior army officers, soldiers etc GOC said "He who has good health , has hope and he who has hope , has everything ". After run for good health the event started with a mass Physical Training (PT) display by children of Valley View Army Public School (VVAPS) which was followed by a run and a health check up camp. Moreover, Jhangar based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion organised an 'Army Mela' for the villagers residing in remote and backward border areas of Nowshera tehsil. The mela was organised by conducting a medical camp along with various other welfare activities to include cultural shows, school competitions and distribution of furniture and library books to Govt schools in the area of responsibility of the battalion. |
