Srinagar misses traditional face lift on Darbar move

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 22: For the first time in the history of the state, the summer capital has missed its annual facelift ahead of darbar move. The secretariat will close in Jammu on April 24 and re-open in Srinagar on May 4.
The lapse caused by incessant rains has given the concerned officials a reason to worry. Dilapidated roads and stinky drains will greet the Chief Minister. The government is new, however, the summer capital continues to be what it was during Omar led coalition government. Only the government has changed, rest remains the same; destroyed city and damaged infrastructure, said a citizen.
Giving a facelift to the city and rebuilding the damaged infrastructure is perhaps the bigger challenge for Mufti government, bigger than its life.
Seven thousand government employees would move to Srinagar along with truckloads of official files and other paraphernalia. Around 50, 000 more vehicles will arrive here but the damaged roads could not even get face lift this time before the re-opening of the darbar.
Meanwhile, government Wednesday decided to permit only up convoys-from Jammu to Srinagar-on April 24, 25 and May3, 2015.
"No down convoy-from Srinagar to Jammu-shall be permitted on the said dates," the government said. "Army and paramilitary forces convoys shall also not be allowed to ply from Srinagar to Jammu on the said dates."
Similarly, it has been decided to permit up convoys-from Jammu to Srinagar-on May 3&4, 2015 to facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles carrying Durbar move employees from Jammu to Srinagar as the offices are opening at Srinagar on May 5, 2015. "No down traffic from Srinagar to Jammu including the convoys of Army/Para-Military forces shall be permitted to ply on the said dates, under any circumstances," the government said. Pertinently, traffic police has made elaborate arrangements for smooth movement of convoys consisting of Durbar move vehicles carrying important records and other related items etc.
