| LMD books Wall Putty for deceptive packaging | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 22: The sleuths of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) escorted by Police today conducted inspection at CFA of JK Wall Putty Works, Rajasthan, a company dealing with manufacturing of Portland Cement & Putty following numerous complaints for less weighment & non declarations of the mandatory declarations as per the provision prescribed for the purpose under the Consumer Act.
According to official spokesperson, the team conducted extensive checking of net contents of all the denominations of bags as per the procedure laid down under the rules by taking 32 samples from each batch & found few packages which were short in weighment. "The packages were also examined and found not adhering to the provisions required for the information of the consumers, he said, adding, "products were also found to be marked with some monadic claims which too need to be substantiated with facts as those slogans lure the consumers and further need to seen under the guidelines of advertising standing council of India or competition Act of India." Thereafter a notice was issued to the Directors of the company through CFA to explain why further Legal Proceeding at the appropriate court may not be initiated against them. Meanwhile all the deceptive packages were seized under the Act and sale of such products were stop till rectification at the end of the company. For other ambiguities of luring consumers a separate notice will be sent under Consumer Protection Act. |
