Of vulgarity and so-called open-lifestyle
Er.Rajesh Pathak7/25/2015 11:22:24 PM
One having the desire of north-Indiandish of daal-roti to eat while in south-India he could have it fulfilled, but not without making efforts. This I too experienced then, when a few days back I visited Bangalore with my nephew. There one day, after roaming the city and making the purchasing, we somehow after a long search and asking from person to person approached a hotel where on enquiry from the owner of the paanshop lying not far from it we knew we could get fairly better north Indian dishes there. As we entered the hotel, looking little of high standard outwardly, we faced the high voltage music with the smoke all around emanating from the puff of the cigarettes. Enjoying the number of Pink Floyd's "Division bell" sung by David Gilmour, falling over each other with the sips of wine, were the Indian and some foreign looking boys and, joining with them, the girls, seemed to be going all out to obliterate the 'puritan' distinction between male and female. Sensing our halted steps at the sight around, one tall and stout person approached us. Upon knowing from us the purpose of our visit, he took us through the lift to the terrace on the third floor, where according to him was served the food. Here too the things were no different, one apart from the provision of food. The way the boys and girls in particular were waywardly behaving in increased bout of intoxication was enough to make one realize what thing 'open-thinking' of modern time is! Not to say, the things around and company of my nephew put me restlessly in a very peculiar state of mind. Meantime, like us, one more family with grandmother-father, son and daughter in law with their two small kids enter the terrace. They take up their seats, as a waiter comes to take the order from them. But it took not much time for them to guess the things around. Some discussion went on among them and what I could not do so far, doing that they left their table and took their way back to exit, not listening at all what waiter, receptionist and other staff member wanted to say in persuasion to make them stay back. So far in state of indecision that is 'to stay or not to stay', I too had reached the conclusion. I beckoned the nephew for leaving the table. Leaving the food on the table in the state as it was, we got up, washed the hands, finished the bill at the counter boarded the lift and came down. The things there were going on in its own way with no change. But outside the hotel the things of course were no longer the same. What was so far confined inside the hotel, its effect now could be felt here too. On the staircase leading to the entrance, blind drunk, struggling to anyhow support each other, were the two boys and, with them, a girl, sheer unconcern to the fact that in the state as she was her own companions, let alone stranger, might grow excited to take undue advantage of it. Not to say they wanted to take back-journey, but now along with the sense the body too refused to cooperate. On the other side having descended the staircase we waved the auto rickshaw. After taking our seats inside it we came to know two things- first, the spectacle which was surprising to me, for the people there that was a common thing ; and second, whom we were mistaking for the foreigners (Japanese, Koreans or such other) they came out to be very our own people, means the Indian students from northeast!
