JKSAC hails GoI for economic package to displaced persons of 1947

Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 25: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) in its core group meeting held here today expressed their gratitude to Government of India (GoI) for including displaced persons of 1947 from POK and other categories of refugees to compensate them for their left out properties in POK in the economic package being redrafted by Central government for all the sections of people of J&K State.
JKSAC president Gurdev Singh urged upon central government to calculate the amount to the tune of Rs 30 lakh to each family along with reservation for their wards in state and central services as per the recent recommendations of Joint Parliamentary Committee on home affairs for 31,619 families registered for ex-gratia grant and 9,500 families left-out totalling 40,683 families.
While expressing his views, Singh condemned the State government for not replying the queries raised by Central government regarding the previous package recommended by Omar Abdullah government. He urged upon the Central government not to take the lead from the previous package which was politically motivated and was only for 36,384 families viz-a-viz 226,319 families from POK and 10,065 from Chhamb sector of 1965-71.
He said that out of total 31,619 families from POK registered for ex-gratia grant in 1960 only 26,319 families were considered for compensation in the previous package of 9,100 crores. The remaining 5,300 families were not reflected in that package.
He apprehended that if the package is again framed on the previous basis then what would be the fate of 5,300 left-out families and other 9,500 bonafide State subject families which were not considered for ex-gratia grant in 1960 due to certain unwanted conditions which were waved off by Central government in August 2000 package release in lieu of their having deficiency in allotted land.
