Early Times Report

Rajouri, July 25 : With normalcy returning to Rajouri city, the district administration has lifted day curfew and restored internet services. The day passed off peacefully and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.
The Rajouri city was placed under curfew on July 19 last after some miscreants had burnt an IS flag, which according to some people, bore religious verses. There were also incidents of stone pelting. The angered people were demanding action against the miscreants.
On July 21, the people again held a demonstration and called for a complete shutdown. Later, in the afternoon the district administration called prominent persons and the matter was sorted out in a marathon meeting. The miscreants apologised, saying they did not know that the flag carried religious verses.
The people from all walks of life later took out a peace march from Dak Bunglow to Abdullah bridge but unfortunately some people resorted to violence, demanding action against those responsible for hurting their sentiments.
As the situation turn tense with some cops getting hurt in the clashes/stone pelting incidents, the district magistrate imposed curfew in the municipal limits of Rajouri city.
Meanwhile, CAPD minister Zulfikar Ali had also rushed to Rajouri and he too convened meetings to restore peace.
After the people resolved the issue and expressed their willingness to restore peace and maintain communal brotherhood, it was decided to lift the curfew in a phased manner.
"The day curfew has been lifted from the city but night curfew will remain in force as a preventive measure and on Sunday, in a review meeting it would be decided to continue with the night curfew or not" said Deepati Uppal, Rajouri district magistrate.
Meanwhile, SSP, Rajouri, Haseeb Mughal has warned the internet users to restrain themselves from spreading rumours.
"Any person who makes, publishes or circulates any statement or report carrying rumors/alarming news with an intention to create feelings of enmity, hatred, ill-will between different religions/communities shall be punished under sections 505/153-A/295-A of RPC and under section 66-A of Information Technology," he warned.
