Army vehicle crushes woman, locals stage protest, magisterial probe ordered

Rajouri, Sept 24: Following death of employee of health department hit by army vehicle and alleged misbehave by the jawans and officer, locals stage massive protest and also blocked Rajouri-Budhal road till late evening and lifted protest after DDC Rajouri announced magisterial enquiry and FIR against the accused.
The deceased has been indentified as Khateeja Begam w/o Mohd Aslam resident of village Charan while her husband also sustained injuries. As per reports, hundreds of vehicles were got stranded on both side of the road as hundreds of people continued to sit on the road demanding apology from officer and FIR against the army driver who crushed a woman to death and left her husband injured here today.
Reports said that one Mohd Aslam and his wife Khateeja Begam resident of village Charan were on their way to their home on a motorcycle and at about 2.30 pm an army vehicle hit the motorcycle when they reached near the main gate of Romeo Force HQ situated near Palma resulting Khateeja's death on the spot and critical injuries to her husband Mohd Aslam.
People from nearby houses/shops rushed to the spot and started rescue operation of Mohd Aslam alleged that an army officer and jawans allegedly misbehaved with them. Irritated over this people by keeping body of the deceased on the road and blocked Rajouri-Budhal road demanding apology from army officer, reports said. Protestors also resorted to stone pelting and reportedly have damaged the army vehicle.
DDC Rajouri Shabir Ahmed Bhat and SSP Rajouri Dr Haseeb Mughal also rushed to the spot and diffuse the tension by announcing Magisterial Inquiry to be conducted by Ch Mumtaz Ali, ADC and also directed Commanding Officer 43 RR to hand over the driver for legal formalities.
Concerned Naib Tehsildar said, "Deputy Commissioner, SSP along with sarpanches of the area and prominent citizen also scheduled to hold meeting with GOC and it was their assurances the agitated people lifted the blockade at about 7.45 pm."
