The rapidly growing Cyber Crime
TAHIR ALI SHAH9/27/2015 11:01:50 PM
The rapid growth of the internet and computer technology over the past few years has led to the growth in new forms of crime-dubbed as cyber crime- throughout the world.
You receive a mail that you've won a lottery worth 10 million dollars and out of curiosity and excitement you unwrap it and are disappointed. Then about a couple of weeks later though you did not receive the prize money, receive all sorts of bills that have to be paid. Your mother receives bills for many different things that had been purchased under your account on the Internet. She feels very annoyed thinking that your brother or you had purchased all those items. So you call the Company and find that your computer had been hacked into. And the so called hacker purchased items on behalf of your account number. And you find that the hacker gained entry by a message that you had opened. So you end up paying only a few thousands. Before even you realize you become a victim of so called cyber crime or cyber terrorism that has attacked you from your computer screens and made your lives miserable.
Cybercrime is defined as crimes committed on the internet using computer as a tool and we innocents are the target. There are various forms of cyber crime like Spamming. I am sure all of us have encountered unwanted product advertisements. PIRACY is also a serious threat that involves illegal reproduction and distribution of software applications, games, movies and audio CDs which is causing a huge monetary loss to entertainment industry worldwide.
Hacking is also a serious crime by a hacker who is simply a talented computer user who misuses his vast knowledge for unethical purpose. Virus attacks that say "I love you" enters our computer and destroys all the computer information pose a serious threat. Computer frauds, thefts and harassments through social networking sites are undoubtedly affecting business and individuals alike.
One should not remain at the receiving end of the threat to their privacy. The fight against cyber crime should start from your home first. Do not reply to any e-mail from unknown source and should immediately report it as spam to the e-mail servers. Safeguard your privacy by not uploading any personal information on social networking sites or providing account details on other such sites. Use of antivirus software can be a great help to fight against such viruses and worms.
Fighting Cybercrime requires IT intelligence and knowledge. Instead of regular police force investigating crimes committed over the internet, IT experts should be recruited into law enforcement agencies to assist in the fight. At this hour when cyber crime is growing by leaps and bounds with growing technology, the government needs to increase strict criminal penalties against computer crimes; all nations should come together and work to harmonize laws against cyber crime internationally; and improve coordination among law enforcement authorities falling under different jurisdictions. Most importantly there should be a responsive 24x7 helpline to tackle the menace. Many cyber crimes go unreported as there is a fear of losing the identity of the victim/reporter. Hence all measures should be taken to ensure their confidentiality.
There will always be new and unexpected challenges to overcome on a regular basis but we can win the battle against this evil if the people and government go hand in hand. There is much we can do to ensure a safe, secure and trustworthy computing environment. It is crucial not only to our sense of well-being, but also to our national security and economy. All that one needs to do is to stay alert and keep oneself updated about various laws and tools present for his protection.
Poverty does not only mean to have a little or no money or resources to earn a living, or being shelterless but it also means to be lonely and uncared for, lying on death beds waiting for the end, unable to afford a treatment. More than 50% of total world's population lives in poverty. As technology developed, robots and automation replaced many blue-collar workers. Furthermore, the rise of microelectronics such as computers, software, fibre optics and robotics created demands of new kind of skills. The jobs created by these advancements needed specialized education that the displaced blue-collar workers were not able to meet. As these technological sectors expanded, there were many workers that were out of jobs. Some of these displaced found jobs in other sectors but usually with lower pay, and some could not find jobs at all. Those 15 per cent, who did not find jobs, constitute the "new poor who, unlike "old poor, had little hope for breaking out of poverty.
Extending one hand to help somebody has more value than joining two hands for prayer. What a world it is! A poor man runs for his daily food and a rich man runs to digest it! There is more fruit in a rich man's shampoo than a poor's plate. Ironical isn't it? The world is a dangerous place not because of the evil but because of those who look and do nothing." Poverty is not an accident. Like slavery and apartheid it is man-made and can be removed by actions of human beings."- Nelson Mandela.
You cannot help everybody but can certainly help some. Give- as it will bring in joy and satisfaction to your heart as nothing else in this world would. Just don't be a mute spectator to the wrong doings around you. Wake up n lend a helping hand to those who need it. When a poor man begs for help his pride is hurt, don't give another blow to his pride by letting him down. Donate- not just money but clothes n food also. It would not affect you but it could help a person in need. Volunteer and teach the less privileged as to how they can make optimum use of the little resources they have. Tell them the importance of investment n savings even if that means saving just a penny a day. This is the least amount of our contribution an important cause. It might not yield results in a few days or months but would definitely show positive results in years to come.
The major cause of poverty is illiteracy. People in rural areas are not aware of the benefits of having a small family. Women should be educated on this issue. Smaller the family better the standard of living n education. Disparity of income is another cause. The rich become richer n poor, poorer. There should be equality in distribution of income n resources which would definitely contribute to the overall development and growth of a nation. If only people become sensitive enough towards this grave issue and realize that a small effort on their part can change generations from this curse called 'poverty.' People holding large business houses should try giving equal opportunity to the deserving in their organization which in turn would not only prove profitable for their business but also contribute to the well being of the nation as a whole. At the end of our lives we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made or how many great things we have done. We will be judged by the good we did to others, helped them in necessity and in earning a living for themselves.
