Udhampur, May 17: Residents from Tandar, Pakhal and Charat localities complaining about the poor condition of roads in their area which they described has been in this state of utter neglect for the last one decade.
Agitated locals explained how the condition of the road has virtually disconnected them from the rest of the district. "It is difficult for us to easily travel especially during the rainy season because of bad condition of the road," they added.
Although centre had initiated various schemes for better road connectivity through PMGSY and alike schemes yet many roads of these areas were neglected forcing people to face the problems.
Citing examples of poor road linkage, locals said, "Under Phase I the raod was to be constricted between Tandara to Charat covering a total length of 26kms while under Phase II the road link between Charat to Pakhlai upto 5kms was to be constructed but the things are completely different on reality ground."
While talking to Early Times, president of Dogra Kranti Dal a NGO, Surjeet Singh alias Dimple said, "the phase I i.e. road stretch between Tandar to Charat was started the construction work some 10 year ago but yet has not been completed following the earthwork.
"However the execution agency has managed the protection work upto 7kms of the total 26 kms leaving rest of 19kms even the people whose land has been acquired still are waiting for the compensation, he added. He also said that children, old and women of the area are facing tough times whenever it rains Another local Ram Lal lamented that the construction along Pakhlai to Charat stretch was sanctioned some three years back under PMGSY scheme and work also got started some three years back but constructed road i.e. black topped road still is a dream for villagers and public of the area is suffering due to apathetic approach of concerned agencies. He also lamented that no compensation was given to the locals whose land has been acquired for the road project.
Local also demanded from DC Udhampur Dr Sahaid Iqbal Choudery to intervene and get the road projects started in their area .
Meantime XEN PMGSY Ravi Raina when contacted evaded his comments as though he responded the phone call but immediately disconnected the same in no time.
