Departmental sources, said, "As much as 150 acres agricultural land at village Jangi Chak, Panchayat Kunthal (Mori Chack) Tehsil Hiranagar along International border has gone barren lacking the irrigation system further forcing farmers of area to stage protest.
Hundreds of farmers who use to irrigate agricultural land through electric powered water pumps have raised their voice against concerned Power Department for failing to provide power to pump sets for irrigation purpose.
Addressing a protest staged by hundreds of farmers in the village Jangi chack, Manohar lal, a Farmer said that PDD has installed 35-40 electrical poles duly connected with new transformer to provide electricity to farmers for water pumps to be used for irrigation purpose but it had failed to do so.
He added that farmers though had already electricity/power connections but PDD disconnected power connections while replacing new transformer with old one. Protestors said, "Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi claims to provide facilities to farmers and strengthening of agricultural section but situation differs at ground level as farmers are crying for facilities along border areas.
Another farmer Dhani Ram said, "People have called on XEn/ AEE Hiranagar many times and have demanded restoration of power supply but nothing has been done till date. He said agricultural land turns into infertile only due to negligence of PDD.
