Challan presented in Rs 1 cr J&K Bank theft case

JAMMU, May 17: The crime branch (CB) of police today presented challan against the accused in the court of chief judicial magistrate, Kishtwar, in the 2009 J&K Bank burglary case.
A total of seven accused had committed the burglary on the night of July 7, 2009 and all of them hailed from Kishtwar. The matter was brought to the notice of Kishtwar police station by bank manager Shamas-u-Din, son of Fateh Mohammad of Maitra, Ramban, July 8morning.
The accused included Zahoor-ul-Hassan Kamal, son of Wali Mohammad Kamal of Kamal Mohalla, Kishtwar, Shahid Hussian Bhat, son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat of Nagarana Keshwan, Kishtwar, Mohammad Aslam alias Col Zubair, son of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh of Lian, Kishtwar, Mehboob Ahmed, son of Ghulam Nabi Rather of Jamia Masjid Mohalla, Bank Gali, Kishtwar, Shahid Hussian Rather, son of Abdul Rahim Rather of Sirgwari, Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed Kripak, son of Abdul Rashid Kripak of Keshwan and JafferHussian Ganie, son of Abdul Majid Ganie of Malipath, Kishtwar.
The accused had entered the bank by breaking the second shutter and then stolen Rs 1,06,48,000 from the chest. Though a case was registered at Kishtwar police station under sections 457 and 380 of RPC and a SIT was also formed to look into the matter, the case was later transferred to CB vide PHQ order No 207 of January 16, 2010.
All the accused were picked up and interrogated by the CB sleauths. Offences under sections 457, 380, 395 and 120-B of RPC were proved against them, according to CB sources.
Sources said of the stolen money, Rs 25,79,900 were recovered from Zahoor-ul-Hassan Kamal, Rs 2,02,600 from Shahid Hussain Bhat, Rs 5,31,400 from Col Zubair, Rs 5,67,000 from Mehboob Ahmad, Rs 5,84,160 from Shahid Hussain Rather, Rs 2,80,000 from Farooq Ahmad Kripak and Rs 3,98,350 from Jaffer Hussain Ganie who originally hails from Haji Mohalla, Sultanpur, in Bhaderwah.
After CB presented challan in the CJM's court, the judge fixed May 30, 2016 as the next date of hearing.
