Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 16: The recent order of State Government for granting extension to minor mineral extraction from rivers and nallahs upto March 31, 2017 has ostensibly showed the influence of mineral extraction lobby which exerted pressure on BJP ministers to modify it.
Ever since the first order which was issued by State government to implement the Minor Mineral Concession Storage, Transportation of Mineral; and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016 since April 2016, the lobby was making all efforts to defer it, sources told Early Times.
They further added that the lobby by using its political contacts, managed to get modified the order granting extension for the mineral extraction till March 2017. "The lobby being very close to the BJP Government which is in coalition in the State, used all its resources to get extension as the extraction business involves the realization of crores of rupees on monthly basis and succeeded in their plans in the shape of modification," they said further adding that it is a well-acknowledged fact that gross violations are being done by the mineral extracting mafia which is allowing to extract mineral in violations of norms and making the environment fragile with each passing day.
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Department of Industries and Commerce, in continuation with SRO-104, had issued another extension order vide SRO-269 dated August 12, 2016 extending the period of minor extraction upto March 31, 2017 giving a ground to ensure the uninterrupted supply of minor mineral to the consumers, the department may issue permission valid upto 31st March, 2017 for extraction of minor minerals to any existing quarry holder or to any person extracting such minor minerals or for transportation of such minerals on royalty basis and for completion of auction process, preparation of mining plan and obtaining environment clearance from the competed authority by the successful bidder.
