Principal GDC Srinagar 'deliberately ruining students career'

Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, May 4: The Principal of Government Dental College (GDC), Srinagar is allegedly playing with the career of its post-graduate students.
The students of Orthodontics department have been barred from appearing in examination because the principal has not forwarded their examination forms yet, according to the students.
Sources said 12 students from 6 departments are due for exams, while out of all students only Orthodontics PGs have been excluded.
"Dr Mushtaq, former HoD of Orthodontics department, was attached by former Health Minister. He is however defying his attachment order and is seen frequently in the college. He is hardly seen in the Directorate office where he was attached to," said sources.
They said Dr Mushtaq has locked material of the department in his room, while the patients who visits the hospital have to suffer due to absence of that material.
Few days back Dr Mushtaq was seen setting some new office for himself as a State Dental Council member. "If he is attached and has been removed from the GDC, how can he set an office in the college premises," asked sources.
"One fails to understand why the authorities are not taking any action against Dr Mushtaq as there are many complaints against him," said sources.
A group of students of Orthodontics told Early Times that the principal is "deliberately playing revenge tactics."
"He has returned the thesis and examination forms of students and not forwarded it to the Kashmir University," the students said.
Moreover, the university has clearly written asked the GDC principal to send recommendation for change of guide in place of Dr Mushtaq, "but he is just beating around the bush," said students.
They said the principal is "deliberately using dilly-dallying tactics to take revenge from them so that there exam gets delayed and nobody in future would try to raise his voice against the injustice which has become a norm in the GDC."
While the exam date sheet has been issued by the university which is starting from May 15, the Orthodontics department figures nowhere in the exam date sheet, the students said.
Students of orthodontics appealed the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to save their career which is at stake because of the principal.
