SRINAGAR, May 5: The PDP-BJP government is likely to face protests from the opposition and employees association on the opening of Darbar in this summer capital of the state on May 7.
The Civil Secretariat was closed on April 27, in Jammu, and will be functional in Srinagar for the next six months.
Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (ReTTF), ReT teachers working under centrally sponsored SSA scheme have threatened of secretariat gherao on Monday. They have been holding protests for delinking of their salaries and demanded release of pending wages.
Besides release of their pending salaries ReT teachers are also demanding delinking of SSA salaries from Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) because teachers under SSA are not getting their salaries on monthly basis and are facing many hardships in meeting their ends meet.
"ReT teaching community from all parts of the state will be marching towards Srinagar on May 7 for Secretariat Ghero on the eve of Darbar Move," they said
"We are pained to take this step but the delay tactics of authorities have force us to leave educational institutions and come on streets," they said.
The opposition parties have decided to corner the government over a range of issues on the opening day. The Congress party is likely start its protest march from the party headquarters to Civil Secretariat Srinagar.
A Congress said the party leaders may protest against the "failure" of the PDP-BJP government in the state. "The present dispensation only brought miseries to the people. The present situation in Kashmir is because of the PDP-BJP government in the state," he claimed.
Sources said the AIP supremo and MLA Langate, Er Abdul Rasheed too has decided to hold a protest march against the government. Sources said that National Conference has also decided to hold protests.
"The National Conference always tried to raise the issues of common people," an NC leader said.
Similarly, there are also protests going in parts of Srinagar. The security agencies have been told to ensure all the security measures are put in place as there are apprehensions of students' protests on opening day of Darbar in view of law and order problem in the Valley.
