Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, May 7: radicalization in several educational institutions in Kashmir has become a cause of concern for the government and security agencies in Kashmir Valley.
Sources within the security agencies said that in view of lack of surveillance on the activities of students, several educational institutions are turning into a hub of violent protests and anti-national activities in Kashmir.
"We have been telling that some teachers are also inciting students to indulge in anti-national activities. The Kashmir University Associate Professor's joining militant is a clear example how radicalization is growing in educational institutions in the Valley," a senior police official said.
The official said that dangerous trend has become a cause of concern for the security agencies.
A police official said that they have written to the authorities several times to keep an eye on student activities.
"The security agencies have asked the government to take several measures including installation of Close Circuit Camera TVs (CCTVs) in several educational institutions and to keep a vigil on anti-national activities of students of Kashmir valley," he said.
He said they would have been used to ensure effective policing and surveillance in educational institutions and will be monitored from Police Control Room.
"But the authorities of educational institutions are not cooperating with security agencies."
The security agencies want installation of CCTVs in educational institutions in the backdrop of student protests across the valley. However, sources said the authorities of several educational institutions have opposed it, resulting there is no end on anti-national activities in several educational institutions in the valley.
"In the first phase, the security agencies have asked the government to install CCTVs in educational institutions where anti-national protests have become a routine," a senior police official said.
He said they would have been used to ensure effective policing and surveillance in educational institutions and will be monitored from Police Control Room. "But the authorities of educational institutions are not cooperating with security agencies."
"The Government has directed the security agencies to prepare a dossier against those employees who had been part of recent violent student protests in Kashmir," an official said.
The official said that government has got reports that several government employees especially teachers had been part of violent protests in Kashmir.
"When students were clashing with forces, we have reports that several teachers also took part in it. Few teachers either instigate students neither make any efforts to pacify them," the official said.
"Some were part of stone pelting while several had provoked the students to clash with forces," he said.
