According to a report, the terrorists allegedly opened fire at a security installation at Wardwan in Budgam district, where a few families of the minority community live. An official at the Budgam police control room confirmed that the constable succumbed to injuries sustained in the attack.
According to the report, snatching weapons seemed to be the motive behind the attack. The slain policeman was identified as Shameem Ahmad, a constable. The police successfully repulsed the attack and no firearm was taken by the terrorist. According to a police spokesperson, the area was cordoned immediately after the incident.
Earlier this month, terrorists attacked a police station in Shopian and took off with five service rifles. Last month also, terrorists took four rifles from policemen deputed at a checkpost in Hyderpora.
