Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 11: Aimed at promoting tourism in Jammu city, the state government recently threw open the Maharaja Hari Singh Park along the banks of River Tawi for the general public, however, the park sans drinking water facility due to which the visitors are facing lot of problems.
The park was created to promote tourism in Jammu so that more tourists come here. The local people also got an opportunity to spend their leisurely time with the construction of this park. No doubt the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) has come up with an exceptionally beautiful park but the lack of drinking water facility inside the park is giving a bad experience to the visitors.
Though several varieties of beautiful flowers have been planted inside the park to decorate it besides a restaurant has also been opened for the visitors but despite such facilities, the people coming to the park, especially the children, who often come here for the school picnics have to remain thirsty as the most important feature in the park- drinking water facility is nowhere to be seen.
The problem further compounded with the fact that the visitors are not allowed to bring eatables as well as drinking water from outside and if they need such things they have to purchase it only from the restaurant inside the park.
But, this arrangement has a big shock in store for the visitors to the park as they can order only food in the restaurant and if they want to quench their thirst they have to place a separate order and spend extra cash for a bottle of drinking water.
Children, who are coming to the park for picnics are quite upset and annoyed over such forceful binding on the visitors to buy eatables and drinking water from the restaurant only.
While talking to Early Times, few of the children said that their food and water bottles are kept out of the park, which is not right because everybody cannot afford to eat expensive food items being offered by the restaurant inside the recreational area.
