| Omar Abdullah's 'cheap publicity' makes life of girl vulnerable! | | |

Jammu, May 25: Even as the opposition National Conference has resorted to wide publicity to the "feat' of NC President Omar Abdullah having given Rs 1.3 lakh out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to the family of girl who was caught with Major Leetul Gogoi a few days back in Srinagar, the former Chief Minister has come under criticism for the "cheap publicity stunt."
The NC leadership was taken head on, on the social media, for releasing the copy of letter by virtue of which Omar Abdullah as being MLA Beerwah has sanctioned Rs 1.3 lakh for the construction of house for the family.
People said Omar Abdullah himself lives in a mansion at Gupkar where even toilet is worth over Rs 1.3 lakh so how could the poor family construct house with this meager amount.
As per a social media post by the National Conference, "Our local party office bearers have visited Chak Kawoosa area of Beerwah. After a firsthand report & finding the family living in extreme poverty & living in a tin shed, @OmarAbdullah has released an amount of Rs 1.30 lakh in favour of (name withheld) for construction of the house."
But what has drawn more of criticism is that in the publicity, the identity of the girl and her family has been revealed.
Legal experts said there was a Supreme Court ruling by virtue of which identity of girl or that of her family in such cases cannot be revealed.
"This is a criminal offence that the identity of a girl has been exposed in such a sensitive case and in militancy infested region. What if something now happens to the girl," said a senior lawyer.
Observers said had the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and opposition National Conference not being shielding each other over such controversies, Omar Abdullah should have been booked.
Despite repeated attempts Omar Abdullah couldn't be contacted for comments. |
