Modi brigade and Mufti coterie for power lust
Jamwal Mahadeep Singh6/7/2018 11:06:03 PM
Where there is little or no public opinion, there is likely to be bad government, which sooner or later becomes autocratic government - William Lyon Mackenzie King and same goes in J&K. The chaotic situation in J&K, calculated as blessed event of the politicians, has pushed its populace at the intersection today. It is a weird mesh created by the politicians, religious leaders, anti-nationals, and pro separatists, whereas Modi brigade and Mufti coterie for power lust, pushing the Jammu & Kashmir towards disintegration. Their visionless dictates/policies are easing out the nefarious designers in Kashmir to carry out their mind game smoothly. We do not find any page in past history connecting J&K problem prior to 1947, although political upheavals surfaced from time to time in valley. After independence, when the whole sub-continent was burning with riots, then father of nation MK Gandhi had seen a ray of light in Kashmiri Muslims demonstrating an unwavering commitment to secularism and non-violence. Maharaja ceded J&K to the Dominion of India through an 'Instrument of Accession' on 27th October 1947.
Let us visualize, then, what lead the way for creation of a perpetual conflict after 'accession' of the state with dominion of India. Indian and Pakistani forces fought their first war over Kashmir in 1947- 48. On 1 January 1948, India took the matter to the United Nations Security Council that adopted resolution 47 for restoring peace and conducting a plebiscite involving three aspects; asking Pakistan to use its "best endeavors" to secure the withdrawal of all tribesmen and Pakistani nationals, putting an end to the fighting in the state, asking India to "progressively reduce" its forces to the minimum level required for keeping law and order, and finally India should then appoint a Plebiscite Administrator to be nominated by the United Nations, who would have a range of powers including powers to deal with the two countries and ensure a free and impartial plebiscite (means to obtain will of people). It is this 'Plebiscite' (Referendum) that is the sonnet of one section of trouble shooters propagating forceful retention of Kashmir and advocating for decision to integrate Kashmir as per wishes of people, without concentrating on following points; The UN resolution of 1948 applies to the full "State of Jammu & Kashmir" that was held by Maharaja as Princely state now has undergone a drastic demographic change with territorial conflicts and it includes Gilgit - Baltistan, Pak administered Kashmir, Shaksgam Valley, Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir valley - not just Kashmir.
Islamisation is another factor kept alive in valley. The religious aspect deliberate that Islam is the major religion practiced in Kashmir. The majority of the Kashmiri Muslims are of the Sunni religious persuasion, with Kashmiri Shias accounting for about 5-10 per cent of the population. So Islamisation ideology is also playing a dangerous role in making Kashmir a vexed problem heading for "radicalization" in Kashmir.
The Human Rights abuse is an ongoing issue and stands projected time and again in context of mass killing, enforced disappearances, torture, rape and sexual abuse to political repression and suppression of freedom of speech. A report by the US State Department said, "Indian authorities use Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) to avoid holding its security forces responsible for the deaths of civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. When no rebuttal is available to such reports, these reports become fried fishes for vested interests to further cry over the issues. The killing of civilians during anti-militancy operations termed as 'aberration' by forces is perceived by common Kashmiri in valley as a norm in a heavily militarized atmosphere and human rights violation.
The continuing disturbing feature to Kashmirites is the 'Armed Forces (Jammu and Kashmir) Special Powers Act, considering it as immunity cover to the forces for their misdeeds on them. Amnesty International global human rights watchdog in its report released on July 1, 2015 in New Delhi held the government of India responsible for encouraging; "the climate of impunity" in strife-ridden Jammu and Kashmir. Such reports of an agency identified all over the world, further embed distancing march against forces in Kashmirites minds.
Ensuing threat of ISIS that has registered its presence in valley as evident from regular waving of ISIS flags in certain areas and even walls splattered with slogans supporting the banned terror outfit is not a healthy sign. Globally accepted version that Islamic State is a group of Sunni militants (majority population in valley and other parts of the state are Sunni) and that believes in the strict enforcement of Sharia law. The increasing bigotry in the valley is also contributing as fuel to the vexed problem.
As pro-separatist PDP contested elections in valley on the agenda to deface BJP terming it as saffron brigade and to thwart attempt of BJP to enforce Hindutva in Muslim populated region, the Kashmir voted in number and BJP drew blank in the Muslim majority defeating its mission 44+. But joining of hands with the same party, the people of valley feel betrayed by PDP and Jammuities feel betrayed by BJP and on ground both have lost their credibility. The Modi government has only one agenda in mind to usurp the states by patronizing pro-separatists ideology, criminals, hollow slogans, fake commitments. that have kept it blind to look for J&K in real perception.
The more disturbing feature of the ongoing show in valley is the perception of its genesis and all governments whether in state or in Center have miserably failed to arrive at the conclusion, whether it is a issue between India - Pakistan, territorial conflict with China and Pakistan, political issue within, Islamisation, religious frenzy, social, developmental, or unemployment issue. It can be perceived as political in the beginning taken over by Islamisation. Lack of any serious political engagement after AB Vajpayee with respect to Kashmir-centric confidence building measures and this impasse and political uncertainty is further pushing away the Kashmiri especially youth. Mr. Modi is visionless, policy less and directionless in J&K and pushing its dictate through muscle policy on one hand and standing with anti nationals operating as stone pelters in Valley. Expecting Madam Mufti will stand at par with ladies in different countries, that ruled most successfully from time to time, but the lady CM proved to be most unsuccessful and ghastly in bringing all sufferings to the common man by creating regional imbalance and by using batons to get his writ dictated in valley and dramatizing the trickery by shedding crocodile tears. All, not one, her visionless policies are back firing. She is occupying the chair by the blessings of the Modi in the center, which too have his mutual interest of power lust in J&K.
Concluding it is high time that we discreetly put an end to this pleasantry of the politicians, religious fanatics, and pro-separatists. Can't us self-command ourselves and not fall prey to any of their stratagem and it is paramount at ones feet to feel and find out within possible unraveling. The collusiveness of both players i.e. Modi brigade and Mufti coterie for power lust had taken J&K from bad to worse that is at the brink of disintegration. The other provisions enshrined in the Constitution does not appear viable to these savior of democracy. The mute spectator in J&K to safe guard the democracy is just enjoying lush greenery of Governor House. These greedy hawks are passing the time on one false claims or the other. Come what may the reality speaks of trouble only to common man, who is nowhere connected with these hawk's game plan.
