Has time come for Army to lend helping hand to BSF on IB?
6/15/2018 11:03:20 PM
Even without declaring war against India Pakistan is virtually fighting the Indian Army on the LoC and the BSF on the IB in Jammu and Kashmir. And it is a matter of surprise that even during the 28 days of unilateral ceasefire which India has declared in the Kashmir valley Pakistani forces have been frequently resorting to ceasefire violations leaving hardly any scope for India to respond favourably to Islamabad's offer for resumption of stalled bilateral dialogue. There is no consistency in the sectors where Pakistani troops or the Rangers resort to ceasefire violations. At times ceasefire violations take place in Gurez sector, then followed by Uri and later committed in Kupwara and Keran sectors. And after a week Pakistani troops resort to ceasefire violations in Poonch or Rajouri sectors. And if the BSF and the civilians bear the brunt of Pakistani ceasefire violations it on the International Border, from Akhnoor to Kathua. And the Indian border outposts and civilians huts are targeted in Samba, R.S. Pura sectors constantly.
This is done to add tension among people in the Jammu region where militancy related incidents of violence seem to be rare. And if possible Pakistani Rangers try to push groups of militants into the Jammu region from where they could move to the valley to indulge in incidents of violence. This is what took place in the samba sector the other day where in the ceasefire violations committed by the Rangers an Assistant Commandant was among the four BSF troopers killed and three others injured on in ceasefire violation by Pakistan Rangers on the international border in Samba district. The three junior officers and the Assistant Commandant were killed in unprovoked shelling and firing by Pakistan Rangers targeting Baba Chamliyal outpost in the Ramgarh sector. The Pakistan Rangers started unprovoked firing on Border Out Post (BOP) Chamliyal in Samba district on Tuesday night at around 10.30, which lasted till 2 am.
According to BSF officials, the Pakistan Rangers initiated cross-border firing along the IB in Ramgarh sector. The BSF has lost four personnel, including an assistant commandant rank officer, while the other three soldiers suffered injuries and under treatment at Military Hospital in Jammu. And when the BSF or for that matter troops retaliate with force and fury Pakistan approaches the UN and the US where Islamabad is seen breast beating to gain sympathy. Is not the time for the Army to be deployed on the IB to assist the BSF? The time seems to have come otherwise Pakistani Rangers may feel encouraged to hit the BSF border outposts and civilian houses. And the damage in terms of killing of BSF and the civilians and injuring both civilians and the BSF besides damage to the infrastructure has been huge. And once the Army's some companies are deployed on the IB, it would be a befitting reply to Pakistan's misadventure. And if New Delhi continues to be unwilling to resume bilateral talks it is the result of Islamabad's continued assistance given to militants in sneaking into Kashmir and its troops resorting to frequent ceasefire violations.
