Setback to Crime Branch in Rassana case as envelope containing hair strand of victim was found empty in Court
7/16/2018 11:31:33 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, July 16: The Crime Branch has reported failed to produce the hair strand of victim of the Rassana case in the Court because three layers envelope today placed before the Court was found empty.
Although defense lawyer A K Sawhney refused to divulge further detail about the envelope while interacting with media persons due to restrictions imposed by the Court, he only revealed that there was no hair strand in the envelope produced in the Court.
Sources said that failure of the Crime Branch to produce the hair strand is big setback to the case of the Crime Branch because it has been alleged in the charge-sheet that Crime Branch had recovered and seized various items including blood stained wooden sticks and hair strand from Devisthan and nearby forest, where the body was dumped by the accused.
As per charge sheet of the Crime Branch, the FSL reports had confirmed one of the hair stands recovered from Devisthan matched with the DNA profile of the victim Asifa, which confirmed that the victim was kept in captivity at Devisthan.
Sources said that this was second set back to the Crime Branch, which claiming to conduct scientific investigation in this high profile case which has created regional divide in J&K.
Already a key witness in the Rasana rape-and-murder case has turned hostile in a big setback to the efforts of the prosecution to present a strong case in the court against the people who first drugged the eight-year-old girl, then raped her, and eventually murdered her.
The witness, a chemist in the area, according to the charge sheet of the Crime Branch (CB), sold sedatives to one of the accused for sedating the victim, today turned hostile in the Pathankot district and sessions court, where a hearing was underway in-camera, sources informed.
"The chemist said in the court that he never sold that particular drug to one of the accused, Deepak Khajuria, and he also doesn't sell that particular drug in his shop," reliable sources informed.
As per the charge sheet, the accused Deepak Khajuria bought a particular drug from the chemist, whose shop is near the Rasana village. Deepak Khajuria then gave that drug to another accused, Shubham, who in turn used that drug for sedating the victim.
"The chemist, in the court, took a u-turn and denied having sold that drug ever to the accused Deepak Khajuria and any other person as he doesn't keep that drug in his shop for selling," sources said.
