MGNREGA employees continue protest dharna, strike enters 17th day
7/25/2018 10:07:41 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 25: All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association today held a protest demonstration demanding their absorption in Rural Development Department (RDD).
Hundreds of employees assembled here at Exhibition Ground early in the morning and protested against state government's failure in fulfilling their pending demands.
On the 17th consecutive day, the protesting MGNREGA employees under the banner of All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association demanded to frame job policy for them.
Addressing the protesting employees, Sandeep Kalotra, president of the association, said that while the deadlock on negotiations between the state government and the protesting MGNREGA employees continued, their peaceful protest goes on consecutively across the state. The protesters including Programme Officers, MIS Operators, Technical Assistants, Gram Rozgar Sahayaks and Accounts Assistants alleged that the successive state governments played with their future by giving hallow promises and assurances. "The committee in this regard was already constituted in the year 2017 and were given instructions to submit report within the period of two months but after 7 months neither any report nor proposal regarding the issue was framed till date, they said. President of the Association, Sandeep Kalotra said that it is very unfortunate that MGNREGA Employees have been forced to take for extreme step and such type of massive protest.
Kalotra further said, "We appeal to the Governor to get involved and save the future of thousand MGNREGA employees and pass direction to the RDD authorities to frame job policy for MGNREGA employees as soon as possible."
