Early Times Report
Anantnag, Oct 24: Militants on Wednesday offered gun salutes to their slain associates at Naina-Sangam and Khiram Bijbehara areas of South Kashmir's Anantnag district.
As per reports, a group of five to six Militants led by Zeenat ul Islam who appeared in the funeral of slain militant Sabzar Ahmed Sofi to offer gun salute.
They said that during the gun salute, two people suffered injuries due to accidental fire, however both of them are said to be in stable condition.
Two to three militants also appeared in the funeral of Asif Ahmad in Village Khiram of South Kashmir's Bijbehara and offered gun salute to their slain colleague.
Both the militants, Sabzar Ahmad Sofi of Naina-Sangam and Asif Ahmad Shergojri of Khiram Bijbehara were killed by security forces in Nowgam area of Srinagar on Wednesday morning in an overnight gunfight.
31-year old Sabzar Ahmad Sofi was pursuing PhD from Jamia Milia Islamia University when left home and joined militancy.
According to family, Sabzaar had completed his M.Sc from Burkhatulla University in 2013-14 and M.Phil from Jivagee University Gwalior before joining Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi in 2016. Sabzar also qualified NET, JRF and started coaching for IAS.
The family bid him goodbye hoping he would fly to New Delhi. For next three months his father could not establish any contact with him. However in October 2016 the family was shocked to know that Sabzar, instead of flying to Delhi, had joined the militancy.
Sabzar is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Another slain militant Asif Ahmad Shergojri was just 18 years old when he joined militant ranks this year in the month of Januray. He is survived by his aged parents only. "He was in fact adopted child of couple" villagers told Early Times.
