Party covertly achieved its objective by making Governor to dissolve LA
C's great game left PDP bewildered
11/25/2018 1:44:59 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 24: As the Governor dissolved the assembly amid chaos created by NC, PDP and Congress in the state, there are speculations that national conference played its cards well forcing the Governor to dissolve the legislative assembly.
NC was already pitching for dissolution of the state legislature with its several leaders appealing Governor not to keep the 87 member house in limbo any longer.
However, as there wasn't any response to NC pleas, the party probably decided to hatch a plan that could compel Raj Bhavan to pay heed to party's pleas.
As on November 21, the PDP claimed that it with the support of Congress and NC is going to form the government, none of the NC leaders came to fore while echoing such words. Even one of the party's senior leaders and uncle of Omar Abdullah termed any bonhomie with the PDP suicidal for the party's future.
The claim that NC in actual didn't want to extend its support to the PDP but wanted the house to get dissolved carries weight as no letter of support was given by the party to PDP when latter claimed that it has got the support of the NC and PDP. "No there wasn't any letter of support given by NC to PDP at the time when Mehbooba Mufti drafted the letter to Raj Bhavan. NC's core working committee was scheduled meet a day later," confirmed a senior NC leader.
Then why did the party assure PDP of its support? The answer to this million dollar question continues to remain insidious. However, according to insiders, it was the NC's great game plan aimed to compel the Governor to dissolve the house and pave way for the fresh elections in the state. "If polls are held in the state anytime soon, NC will be benefitted," says a functionary of national conference.
There are also reports that the party took the rise and verbally assured PDP of its support. "It was expected that the BJP wouldn't want any such action to take place and worst it would do was to pitch for the dissolution of assembly. It did what the NC was pitching for since months," says a political commentator based in Jammu.
The PDP is the single largest party having 28 members in 87 member assembly, followed by NC which has 15 MLAs. Congress having the strength of 12 legislators extended its support so that the PDP could stake claim for forming the government. The number required to stake claim in the state's lower house or legislative assembly is 44. The parties wanting to form the government had 55 MLAs supporting the move.
Interestingly, NC didn't even extend support to the PDP when latter was mulling to move the court over the decision of dissolution of assembly on November 21, this year. The party in its response said that it cannot move the court as it was the PDP that staked claim for government formation. More fuzzy things are likely to get clear in days to come.
