PIO fails to reveal details of workshops/ seminars under RTI act

Jammu, Dec 26: The Public Information Officer (PIO) in the office of Deputy Commissioner Rajouri has failed to provide details about the number of workshops and seminars held in the district on Right to Information Act (RTI). Information seeker had filed application more than 2 months back but the PIO who is also Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) has failed to respond to information seeker.
Pertinently DC office Rajouri had revealed before J&K High Court that more than 600 (six hundred) RTI awareness camps were held in the district during last 5 to 6 years. In order to get more details about these workshops and awareness camps JK RTI Movement sought complete details using Right to Information Act (RTI).
"The application was filed before Additional DC Rajouri (PIO) more than 2 months back via speed post but till date the information has not been provided " said Dr Mushtaq Khan General Secretary of JK RTI Movement .
The offices of Deputy Commissioners of almost all the districts had been caught on the wrong foot as no official record is maintained vis a vis workshops / seminars that were conducted on Right to Information Act (RTI) since the law came into force in J&K around 10 years back. The DC offices have been found to be submitting vague and misleading information before the High Court (HC) where a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) titled J&K RTI Movement V/S J&K State has been filed early this year.
