New Delhi: Northern Command chief Lt Gen Ranbir Singh on Thursday said that in 2018 more than 250 terrorists were killed. Talking to reporters after inaugurating Kalai Bridge constructed by Border Roads Organization, he said, “2018 has been a great year for the security forces, more than 250 terrorists were killed, 54 were caught alive, and 4 surrendered to the forces.”

He also confirmed that five Pakistanis were killed in Poonch sector and said that it shows that Indian Army is always ready to give them a befitting reply. Earlier in the day, five Pakistani soldiers were gunned down while seven of their bunkers destroyed in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops on Wednesday night across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector, according to reports. Three Pakistani soldiers were also reportedly critically injured in the cross-border firing.
The retaliatory action by the Indian troops came a day after Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had warned Pakistan that India will not hesitate in carrying out strong action against inimical moves, asserting that its forces were giving enemies along the Line of Control a “befitting reply” and inflicting heavy losses.

Following the massive retaliatory action, no ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Rajouri and Poonch districts has been reported throughout the day today.

On January 2, Union minister Hansraj Ahir had said that altogether 140 terrorists were killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir between June and December 2018.

He was replying to a written question in Rajya Sabha. “140 terrorists were killed from June 25 to December 5, 2018, in the state, where 119 terrorist violence took place,” he said.

The minister of state for home had said 426 stone pelting incidents took place in Jammu and Kashmir in the said period in which 34 civilians were injured.

As many as 171 security personnel were martyred while combating with terrorists in Kashmir and other parts of the country, guarding borders or serving their duty in 2016, 167 troops were martyred in 2017 and 163 personnel in 2018
