Workshop on "Effective Prevention of Aggressive Behavior" organized | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 28: With an aim to increase teacher awareness of the problem of aggression, to reduce tolerance of aggression, to provide assistance to students who are the targets of aggression, to develop strategies to prevent aggression from occurring, a workshop on "Effective Prevention of Aggressive Behavior" was held in DPS Nagbani today. The resource person R.K Verma, the Principal of the school in the workshop discussed about the specific skills for effective prevention of student and teacher aggressive behavior and effective intervention when such behavior occurs. The purpose of this workshop was to describe the strategies used to prevent aggressive behavior in the classroom. It was suggested that a positive class climate was the strongest indicator for the prevention of aggression. Some prevention measures suggested were positive classroom management methods, challenging students academically and having high academic expectations of students, high expectations for student behavior, trust of students, respect of students and not tolerating student disrespect. Teachers were asked to use culturally relevant teaching strategies to prevent aggressive behavior. This way the intervention will be swift and solution focused. The workshop stressed on the need to prevent this behavioral aggression because simply ignoring the challenging emotional and behavior responses does not make it disappear and in many cases the responses become more extreme if they remain unaddressed. With effective intervention, the long term consequences of challenging behavior can be prevented. The teachers were asked to accomplished these goals by implementing the strategies learnt in the workshop to maintain program integrity and to assure the quality of implementation.
