Early Times Report

Anantnag, Mar 16: Two vital wings of Jammu and Kashmir Forest department-territorial and wildlife-got involved into a tussle after some lower grade officials of Anantnag Forest Division on Saturday attempted to comb a forest area of Achabal Wildlife Sanctuary to check green felling.
The Forest department officials, who attempted to enter into wildlife area, had received reports of green felling in compartment No. 5 and 6 of Achabal Wildlife Sanctuary, official sources told Early Times.
"Forest Block Officer of Forest Department was stopped by his counterpart of wildlife department and denied entry into Achabal Wildlife Sanctuary," they said.
They said that both the officers exchanged heated words, following which they approached police station Achabal.
"Entry into Wildlife Sanctuary is restricted. Action will be taken against those who forcefully attempted to enter into our area," Wildlife Warden South Kashmir Suhail Intesar Told Early Times. He said that photographs of tree stems being circulated on social media sites are concocted.
"There is no green felling in our jurisdiction and if there is anything Forest Protection Department has got the powers to comb and check our area," he added.
Wildlife Warden said that his subordinates had approached Police Station Achabal with a written complaint but then the matter was resolved outside police station amicably.
On the other hand, Divisional Forest officer Anantnag, Feroz Ahmad Chatak told ET that he has credible information about the green felling in wildlife area. "I have credible information and so far my employees have spotted three tree stems in wildlife area," he said.
The DFO said that he wasn't overlapping and this evening he has farmed a committee of four range officers including range officer of wildlife department and asked them to submit a detailed report within three days.
Earlier, Forest Protection Department had seized 105cft illegal timber in Mattipora village of Mattan Forest Range.
