Residents of Venus Chowk highlight grievances
3/27/2019 10:44:41 PM
Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Mar 27: The residents of Venus Chowk Udhampur, held a meeting to highlight the grievances faced by the nearby residents of the Chowk followed by a press conference.
Speaking on the occasion Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, projected that the main Chowk as well as road leading towards Sailan Talab matador stand, is full of pot holes resulting interrupted flow of traffic, leading to frequent traffic jams and accidents. The main reason of the dilapidated condition of the road is because of poor work of black topping of the road. The water supply pipes leading to the interior mohalla have developed leakages and 80% of the water supply is drained out.
The approach to concerned PHE authorities yielded no results and they have shown their helplessness because of the reasons that PWD does not allow them to dig the trouble points. An electric pole opposite Gupta Furniture House has become dangerous by way of its being falling at anytime. The base of the poles has hollowed owing to leakage of PHE pipes and water stagnating around it. He further stated the main concern of the nearby residents of Venus Chowk is a Park that was constructed by the Gardens and Parks department with expenditure of lakhs of rupees and inaugurated by then Honorable legislature.
It was the result of unanimous decision of residents of the area, Municipal authorities as well as district administration. It is the only resting place for the travelers and those passengers looking for conveyance to Kathua, Billawar, Basohli, Ramnagar, Jaganoo and number of other destinations. The Park now appears to be target of certain vested interests for their political mileage and time and again it is attempted to be dismantled on the pretext of constructing a passage for vehicles.
Whereas there is a dilapidated structure and dangerous to the passersby and its dismantling can solve the purpose of the one way passage for the vehicles. The structure also violates the provisions of the 'Land Development Act'. There is a Pipal tree inside the Park, where not only the people of nearby residents but from other places pay their obedience. Some vested interest is continuously ill projecting this Park as a place of rude gathering of drunkards to meet their personal scores of political game plan and reportedly instigating the present Municipal Council Udhampur to down with the Park. Whereas it is required to be developed on modern lines as only Park available in this corner of Udhampur. The DDC Udhampur has been requested to look into the problems.
