One day National Conference on Inclusive Education ogranised

Jammu, Mar 30: MIER College Of Education (Autonomous) organized ZCC Northern Zone-II, RCI Sponsored CRE Accredited national conference on "Inclusive Education: Future Perspectives and Best Practices" today at H.L Gupta Auditorium.
Dr. Arun Manhas, State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, J&K was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr. Malika Nadda, Coordinator ZCC Northern Zone-II RCI, New Delhi and Dr. Arun K Gupta, Chairperson MIER Group of Institution were the Guest of Honour. Dr. Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER, was the special guest on the occasion, Dr.Adit Gupta, Principal, Prof. N. R. Sharma, Dean Academics, HODs of various departments and Centre Heads along with the staff members of the college and Model Academy School attended the conference.
The conference aimed at bringing practitioners, educators, thinkers and scholars in special education from the state and beyond on a common platform to deliberate upon different challenges that stand in the way of effective implementation of Inclusive Education.
The inaugural session commenced with the lighting of the Lamp of Learning. Dr. Adit Gupta, Director, MIER extended a formal welcome to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. In his opening remarks, Dr. Adit Gupta exhorted that though much has been done by RCI and other NGOs in the area of special and inclusive education, still much needs to be done, especially in J&K and such programs are certainly a step forward for highlighting the future prospects and best practices on 'Inclusive Education' to make it meaningful for real implementation in school setups.
Dr. Arun K Gupta, Chairperson MIER Group of Institution, in his special remarks, said that RCI is the nodal agency recognized at the national level that is not only involved in redefining disabilities and spreading awareness but also acts as a regulatory body for different training programs in Inclusive Education.
Dr. Rohnika Sharma HoD UG Dept. presented the details about the conference and dwelt upon the themes of the seminar which were a) teaching methodologies for CWSN in inclusive settings, b) Redesigning curriculum for inclusion vis-à-vis skill development and vocationalization, c) Special Olympics-a best practice towards inclusion and d) from exclusion to inclusion: universal design for learning strategies.
Dr. Arun Manhas, in his inaugural address, deliberated upon the importance of educating children with exceptionalities in inclusive settings. Inclusive education provides equal opportunities to both children with and without disabilities to learn in the same classroom. He informed the participants about the policies, programs and laws related to inclusive education. In addition, he highlighted the progress in the special education field in the global context. Mementoes were presented to the worthy chief guest and other dignitaries as a token of gratitude.
