Un-safe bridge lead you to GDC Paloura | 'Students, Staff, residents of Bhalwal keep lives on risk' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 2: The students, staff of GDC Paloura (Bhalwal) and the residents of adjoining areas were happy when the building of College was inaugurated in April 2018, dreaming a new and safe bridge that would connect that area with Jammu-Akhnoor, but nothing has moved to this day. Decades back, a bridge was constructed there, which is in shambles now and serves no purpose, said Munshi Ram a resident near new college complex and added that it has been learnt, that Irrigation and Flood Control Department, had declared the bridge unsafe. But with no other option thousands of the residents are forced to use the bridge daily. "The bridge is very narrow and unsafe, but still over a dozen school buses, other public transport and private vehicles cross the bridge daily", Munshi Ram said and added that they were fed up now with cold response to their genuine demands from the authorities and elected representatives. "On several occasions, we took the issue with former MLA, Bali Bhagat who was also Minister, and among those who inaugurated the college building, and certainly, while reaching the college, on that day, the ministers and babus themselves had an on the spot assessment of the condition of the bridge," they said. "We were happy, when Governor's rule was invoked in the state, after 'breakup' of PDP-BJP Government, hoping that Governor's administration will do the needful but all in." "We registered our complaint in JK Grievance Cell, even letters were sent to Chief Secretary and Advisors but unfortunately things are as they were an year ago", he said. The then Minister for Finance, Education, Labour and Employment, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat and Minister of state for Education, Tourism and Culture, Priya Sethi inaugurated the complex constructed at a cost of over Rs 12 crore, on April 9, 2018. "During the inauguration function, locals who were present, had appealed the Ministers' for a bridge", he added. Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar when contacted said that he would look into the matter. "Though, the district administration is busy due to Lok Sabha Polls, but I will try my best to solve this issue", he added. |
