Look for symbol not candidate: BJP
(Party promoting 'Presidential form of Democracy')
4/3/2019 11:04:16 PM
Jamwal Mahadeep Singh

The way BJP is propagating for the 17th Lok Sabha elections and instead of awaking the voters to look for the best candidates, who has the ability to carry forward the aspirations of common man, everyone in this field is mesmerizing the voters as to look for the party symbol only without caring about the party candidate in contest as they look forward for the Modi to be on the driving seat. This way the strategists in the election war rooms are promoting 'Presidential form of Democracy' rather than 'Parliamentary form of Democracy'. Democratic elections require an informed as well as a free vote and a fair chance for contestants to win support and motivate supporters to help them gain office.
Election campaigns are vital to achieving those goals. Elections that are genuinely competitive offer equitable opportunities for contestants to convey their positions to citizens and compete for votes. The election campaign strategies are formulated in the election war-rooms depending on the surveys conducted by election strategists about what will work on ground to befog the voters' vision and what are the methods that hypnotize the voters. Election campaigns are the means by which candidates and political parties prepare and present their ideas and position on issues to the voters in the period preceding elections. The purpose of political campaign is to reach and influence voters by using several different mediums. The direct campaigning include open talks with the electorate, personal communication between voters and candidates whereas indirect campaign is use of mass media, taking part in TV debates, radio or newspaper interviews, leaflets and election posters and of course use of internet and social networks. It is an organized effort to get maximum votes. The primary purpose of political campaign is, to give the information about the political parties and their future plans for the betterment. In the run up, the recent hammers of ECI, as a reformative step, political parties and candidates with criminal antecedents to publish the declaration of criminal record must be the part of election campaign also. The matter should be published in font size of at least 12 points and should be placed suitably in a minimum of three newspapers. It is a welcome addition. What we can define election campaign in picture as a part of strategies to hypnotize the voters to destabilize their reasoning power and to take them to a situation where voters fall to the trap of these strategists. These are the power lusty politicians from top to bottom in all the parties whether national or regional, who are playing the game plan of branding each other as anti-national. All are deep neck in using vulgar lexicon. The Congress free India campaign by Modi and dislodge Modi campaign by Congress are the ideologies of the dictatorship by Modi and anti-democratic campaigns of Congress. Both are condemnable in democratic set up. They are hell bent to inculcate the same venom among the voters and their followers' thus creating dangerous parameters that are ultimately going to divide the society as pseudo secular and ultra secular, pseudo nationalist or ultra-nationalist. In the Indian context, the term pseudo-secularism is used to pejoratively describe policies considered to involve minority appeasement. Pseudo Nationalism simply means, nationalism (showing love for nation) which is fake (not real). Pseudo nationalist is that person who claims & rants a lot about his or her patriotism, nationalism towards motherland but actually doesn't care about it, only using it for some political mileage or personal benefit, hardly cares about the constitution but still would like to be a part of the government, likes to brand others of anti nationalism while they themselves violate the law & constitution of the country. Ultra nationalism is an extreme nationalism that promotes the interest of one section of people above all others. Let us think of revolutionary nationalism that is an ideological theory that calls for a national community united by a shared sense of purpose and destiny. The main thrust of campaign carried by the battle field soldiers of election campaign lies on these lines. Why we have kept our own vision in hostage to these politicians and their vicious propaganda is a subject for introspection? Why the political parties do not go for transparent election campaigns rather prefer to exchange sweet candies in the dark shades avoiding campaign regulations and restrictions. The en masse dissemination of divisive propaganda and fake news by biased media are the fundamentals of some crooked political parties as part of their election campaigns. Modi has based his campaign on gauzy catch phrases such as 'Chaiwala', 'Pardhan Sevak', 'I am Majdoor number one' and 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' and all this catch phrases are emotional black mail of the voters.
He is not only single person in the Indian history that has rural and poor background. In the row we have galaxy of such persons who in actuality have delivered number of contributions in the field of politics, science and many revolutions for the societal change not like Modi who is branded as a leader under whose Prime Ministerial ship various negativities have erupted such as: intolerance, Apex Court judges speaking before media, CBI episode, increase in militant attacks in valley, Democracy degraded, Country came to be known as worst place for woman in the world, Media worst shackled, inviting letter from U.S. Senators and members of the U.S. House of Representatives raising "grave concerns about the increasing intolerance and violence", death of hundreds of innocent during Demonetization a step that brought nothing positive for country, un scheduled and un invited visits to enemy country, and what not. Modi is just hell bent for harsh attacks on his opponents and on regional parties in a most un-required manner and bent upon to destroy the important pillar of democracy i.e. opposition. The most dangerous campaign taken up by battle field soldiers of BJP campaign and by Modi himself is that Modi is to be re-elected as PM. These campaigners never speak of the performance of the Government but only highlight the Modi that has once ashamed the Indians by saying on the foreign soil that he is ashamed of being born on Indian soil. If this is not the power lust then what? He himself and his coterie projecting Modi as the one and only one Demi-God shifted to the Indian soil that has all vision, futuristic plans and only hope for the Indians. This reminds us of the phrase 'Apne Munh Mian Mithu'. A vicious campaign is being propelled to corrupt the voter's mind that they should not look for the candidate as it is the Modi, who has to be elected as PM, hence just look for the symbol only. This speaks of the message that we have not to look for the bio-data of contesting candidate of BJP for Lok Sabha seat, about his literacy, performance, criminality and acceptance and every Tom, Dick and Harry fielded by BJP is to be sent to the Parliament. I like to ask this fraternity and their strategists sitting in the election war-rooms whether in India is it 'Parliamentary form of Democracy' or are we voting in 'Presidential form of Democracy'.
The manner vicious campaign taken up by BJP is spoiling the essence of the 'Parliamentary form of Democracy', yet they claim themselves to be the watchman of Indian Democracy, when under Modi regime India has gradually slipped on an annual Global Democracy Index among 165 countries that was at 27th position in 2014, slipped to 32 in 2016, to 37th place in 2017 and to 42nd for the year 2018. The EIU Democracy Index provides a snapshot of the state of world democracy for 165 independent states and two territories. The Democracy Index is based on five categories: electoral process and pluralism; civil liberties; the functioning of government; political participation; and political culture. Based on their scores on 60 indicators within these categories, each country is then itself classified as one of four types of regime: full democracy; flawed democracy; hybrid regime; and authoritarian regime and India ranked as flawed democracy.
