People ridicule PC politician for trivialising waiter profession | Display of arrogance, feudalistic mindset | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 7: The arrogance of wealth, power and position mingled with feudalistic mindset was at display on Sunday when Peoples Conference leader Imran Ansari trivialising a particular profession- inviting wrath of netizens on social media at large. Peoples Conference General Secretary and former minister Imran Raza Ansari on Sunday called National Conference vice president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah a "waiter" and said that he can't defend Article 370 and Article 35-A. Addressing an election rally at Hanjiwera Pattan Ansari Omar Abdullah has roots in Delhi and London but not in Kashmir where the brunt of detention has been worst faced by PC chairman Sajad Gani Lone. Meanwhile, what proved counterproductive for this former PDP leader and prominent merchant is belittling the profession of a waiter. "A waiter works from dawn to dusk tirelessly to make both ends meet. He doesn't evade taxes and he doesn't make tall promises. He is a part and parcel of the society- a citizen who has equal rights as of any minister, billionaire or a trader. What Imran Ansari has said reflects his mental bankruptcy," said a Srinagar based netizen. There were series of comments made by people across the state about such a statement from Ansari in which he in a bid to score political points against his rival ridiculed otherwise legal and legitimate profession. People are ridiculing the leader for trivialising the profession and making fun of waiters. "I may have hundreds of problems with Omar Abdullah and may not subscribe to his stand. However, in the garb of targeting the political opponent, you cannot ridicule a particular profession. Being a waiter is not crime. There are hundreds and thousands of waiters in the state of Jammu and Kashmir working in different hotels and restaurants. What Ansari meant to say is that the people who work as waiters are good for nothing," said another netizen while commenting on the statement. A senior scribe based in Srinagar said it is high time that Ansari should apologise for his uncalled for and misplaced remark on a particular profession. He said that by making such a remark, the PC leader has actually reflected that how much he looks down upon the people doing such jobs. "He will put his entire party in trouble if other political groups try to rake up the issue. It will not send a positive message to the voters also who mostly belong to middle income group. It is not necessary if Ansari is rich then he will respect the riches only. The society is all about inclusiveness and we are all equals no mater what our profession is- we must respect every person irrespective of his economic status and position in the society," said the scribe. Meanwhile, a senior national conference leader said that the party is likely not to counter Ansari's remarks as according to him, the PC leader has himself exposed his feudalistic and anarchic mindset. "The party will not react as far as I know. People know who is what," said the NC leader. |
