Early Times Report

Budgam, June 2: As the anti-encroachment drive continues in Budgam , the local Tehsildar who earlier retrieved more than 100 kanals of state land, has retrieved around 10 kanals of state land in a posh colony near Srinagar's new airport area.
Among the encroachers is a senior government officer who was himself appointed as a gazetted officer in JK Legislative Council more than 15 years ago. A former Joint Director Prosecution who happens to be a PDP leader presently is also one of the encroachers sources said.
Details available with Early Times reveal that anti encroachment team lea by Tehsildar Budgam Nusrat Aziz retrieved around 10 kanals of state land in Humhama area of Budgam on Saturday amid stiff resistance from land brokers , encroachers some of whom are senior officers in J&K Government.
One of the officers who was until recently posted at a plum position came forward and tried to stop Nusrat Aziz performing her job. Police have registered a case against him.
It's in place to mention here that the officer happens to be a close relative of a PDP leader. He was appointed through backdoor in JK Legislative Council in 2003 through backdoor in the gazetted cadre.
Right now the said officer has been sent back to his parent organization where he was appointed.
"First of all government must probe how the accused amassed huge wealth and property that is disproportionate to the known source of his income. He tried to manhandle the officers of anti -encroachment team. He used rough words against the honest and dedicated Tehsildar of Budgam who is doing a great job and we condemn this. This corrupt officer must be taught a lesson " said Firdous Ahmad a local resident of Humhama Budgam.
Early Times was the first newspaper to report about illegal land grab in Budgam and subsequent crusade against it by a female Tehsildar who has been posted as Tehsildar Budgam only 2 months back. What her male counterparts could not do in years , Nusrat Aziz has done that in just 2 months. Few weeks back the officer retrieved a large chunk of sate land 100 80 kanals 9 marlas near Rakh e Arath wetland. During that drive several illegal structures were dismantled that included shops , residential houses and boundary walls.
During the drive in Humhama area on Saturday Tehsildar along with a JCB and dismantled several illegal structures in the area. Few months back Nusrat Aziz had retrieved 10 kanals plus state land in Sheikhpora which was handed over to floriculture department.
Sources said that many police officers and bureaucrats have also encroached upon state land in Humhama that needs to be identified and retrieved.
