Citizens' Forum demands Heritage Tourism framework for Jammu

JAMMU, June 14: Citizen's Forum has urged the Governor Satya Pal Makik and Dr Jitendra Singh Union MoS in PMO to revive the grandeur of the state's age old heritage by turning palaces and havelis into Hotels, cafes, museums and other cultural assets. It requested to fulfill the long time cherished desire to have a tourism atmosphere in Jammu region equal to southern states and Rajasthani tourism infrastructure.
"There is a 20 year perspective plan for sustainable tourism development of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir prepared by M/S Santek consultancy Pvt Ltd Delhi. This plan is used to develop Kashmir sites and nothing is done in Jammu," said the Forum.
It added, "Though we cannot compare our heritage sites with beautiful assets available with other richly states of rich Maharajas, still a professional application and modern attempt can transform the neglected sites like Mubarak Mandi and other various forts in to beautiful buildings by professional architects and designers." The Forum also request the Governor to create way side Bars and Restaurants with excellent fresh rooms, from Lakhanpur to Banihal.
It also requested to create a Satellite Township be created around Patnitop with great infrastructure like Mcleodganj in Himachal Pradesh.
