New political 'front' in Kashmir issues joint statement to see 'public reaction'

Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: A new political front has started emerging in mainstream politics of Kashmir.
The group has started meetings and recently issued a joint statement formally.
Some of the prominent names in the group are former MLAs like Syed Altaf Bukhari, Engineer Rashid, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Hakim Yasin.
The group recently issued a joint statement to express concern over the "political scenario" in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said the group had been holding deliberations for around a month and issued the joint statement to see "public reaction." "We wanted to see public reaction on how unity among us will be taken by the people," said a leader from one of the parties on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the group looks ahead to explore possibility to hold the Assembly elections jointly.
The sources said the group is looking ahead to get four more leaders to the "new front". Sources said at the recently held meeting the group actually discussed Assembly elections and the possibility of alliance but that it was not mentioned in the handout.
Sources said the regional parties especially the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party are keenly monitoring the development.
Sources said both the parties have decided to call high level meetings to decide future course of action.
Sources said the two parties want to evolve a strategy so that the new front doesn't hit their vote banks.
"Our concern is our vote bank and don't want any of these fronts to cut our vote and we are going to discuss it," said a source in one of the parties.
Sources said the NC would hold a meeting in this regard in presence of both party patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and his and party president Omar Abdullah.
Despite repeated attempts the leaders of the new front couldn't be contacted for comments.
