None paid heed to cries of Narwal yard shopkeepers for basic amenities since two decades | Dilapidated roads, choked nullahs, slush, garbage littered everywhere | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 3: Several governments have changed seats in the state while several politicians have represented the area in the last two decades but the Narwal yard has been crying for attention for basic amenities but for no avail. The shopkeepers and people working in Narwal yard number 6, Rajinder Kumar, Munerka Choudhary, Ramesh Singh, Darminder Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Pawan Singh, Suresh Kumar, Kala, Rattan Chand, Ramesh Lal and Sahil Malhotra informed Early Times that for the last over two decades they have been watching the pathetic state of affairs of basic amenities in the area. "The yard is virtually turned into a dumping yard with heaps of garbage found everywhere, while slush and littered garbage in the area has been making it difficult to do regular works", they said, adding that since they have been working in the area for over two decades, only once one road was macadamized but that too partially. They further said that most of the drains have been choked in the area and none from the authorities came here to de-silt the drains. "Due to silt and garbage the depth of the drain has reduced to half its original depth and during recent rains, the water from the choked drain spread all across the lane, making it impossible to do routine work of repairing the vehicles", they said, adding that finally they themselves cleared the garbage from the drain and restore the flow in the drain. They further informed that there were no roads in most of the yards and the choked drains led to draining out of water from the drains and it spread all over the road, further deteriorating its already pathetic condition. "The floods have dug up the roads and large potholes have developed in the roads, which led to accidents as well as damage to the vehicles", the shopkeepers said. They claimed that the public representatives have never bothered about the area and have been failed to provide even basic amenities such as roads, lanes and drains. |
