Opposition must unite to fight BJP's dictatorial politics: Harsh
10/30/2019 9:18:14 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 30: Accusing the BJP of abusing its massive mandate to extinguish the democratic chatter in the State, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP & former Education Minister today appealed all opposition parties to unite to fight the dictatorial and anti people moves of the saffron party.
With unwholesome, treacherous decisions being thrust upon the people and all voices of dissent muzzled by use of brute force, the democracy in the state was invariably under seize, said Singh. Rather than fighting from different platforms, the opposition needed to confront the power intoxicated saffron brigade through collective initiative at least over common issues, added Singh. He was addressing a press conference in Jammu today.
"The BJP led govt. had deprived the people of their right to have an elected govt. in the State by denying timely elections to State Assembly on one pretext or the other. It seemed desperate to continue its proxy rule in the State even if it amounted to circumventing the obiter dicta laid down by Supreme Court calling for fresh elections within six months for all those State legislatures where Assemblies were prematurely dissolved. A highly ascendant BJP was not only dis-respecting institutions but seemed hell bent to silence all voices of dissent" said the NPP Chairman. Only recently BJP govt. took the unprecedented step of demoting the State to Union Territory level by overlooking the aspirations of the masses, said Harsh adding that downgrading of around 200 year old State was biggest insult to the collective sentiment of the people of the State.
Pointing towards the mobile internet blockade, Singh said that it was an authoritarian move with the govt. failing to give any reasonable explanation for the ban or even making a statement about the possible restoration of the much desirable communication links in the near future. The installation of Toll Plazas in Jammu region despite public outrage was another such glaring example of the saffron govt's. dictatorial moves which seemed to believe in policy of suppression rather than addressing the concerns of the general public who voted it to power, said Singh.
"Again it was BJP which refused, in a way, to provide space to its political opponents by choosing to go it alone in the BDC polls. The elections to such Local Bodies were held" without the participation of opposition parties thereby defeating the very fundamentals of democracy" observed Singh. "While all dissent is being throttled, the State is witnessing a culture of decentralized intimidation where inconvenient voices are being choked and civil liberties curbed. And until and unless the general issues pertaining to public at large are fought unitedly, the individual efforts may not bear fruits" said Singh urging upon various political and social organizations to join hands to save democracy and rule of law in the State.
Shanker Singh Chib, Gagan Partap Singh, Capt. Anil Gour, State Secretaries and Surinder Chouhan, District President (Jammu Rural) were also present in the press conference.
