Former J&K CM continues to support separatists, refuses to mend her ways
Mehbooba's twitter handle speaks for her
12/23/2019 10:36:01 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 23: Former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, who continues to be under detention since August 5 has become active again through her daughter Iltija Mufti, who is handling her mother's twitter account. The recent tweet on Mehbooba's account reads: "A 70-year old first Kashmiri political detainee has died in an Rajasthan jail. MHA has blood on its hands and it should be held accountable."
This tweet had appeared on Mehbooba's twitter handle soon after the news about Jamaat-e-Islami activist Ghulam Mohd Bhat dying at Allahabad Jail in Uttar Pradesh broke. But, according to media reports he had been arrested on July 10 this year. He had been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and then shifted to Allahabad Jail in Uttar Pradesh where he had fallen sick.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Mehbooba's twitter handle is speaking for her. She has once again proved that once shet set free she will continue to support the separatists. Despite remaining in confinement during the past four months she is not ready to change her policy and stand."
He said, "Mehbooba's tweet should serve as an eye opener for the people who are seeking her release on the ground that she has been the Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of J&K, which was reorganized on August 5 this year."
An observer said that Mehbooba's daughter has been actively tweeting on her mother's behalf. "She has left no chance during all these months to bash the Government of India and is misusing the freedom of speech to defame the country."
A Kashmir Watcher said that Mehbooba's tweet on Jamaat activist is no surprise. "It is an open secret that Jamaat-e-Islami of Jammu & Kashmir which was banned by the centre in February this year helped Mehbooba Mufti's party win Assembly elections in Kashmir in 2014. After coming into power Mehbooba did not disappoint Jamaat and she gave it a free hand to carry on with anti-national activities. Most Jamaat activists, who were languishing in different jails across the country were responsible for radicalizing youth. These activists were responsible for local Kashmiri youth especially in South Kashmir joining the militant ranks and rebelling against the state," he added. "Many PDP leaders have strong links with Jamaat leaders. When they were in power they ensured that security agencies stay away from their voters, who were mostly Jamaatis. Mehbooba Mufti coming in support of a Jamaat activist is a clear message to New Delhi that her leanings towards the separatists have remained unchanged," said another analyst.
