Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 3: Majority of the schools in Marwah Education zone are still closed even after winter vacations ended in all winter zones of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir including Kishtwar District.
As per the details available with Early Times, majority of the teachers and masters along with some lecturers had not reported in the hundreds of schools falling under Marwah Education zone. ZEO Marwah was even found absent from the duty on very first day of opening of the schools along with senior Principal by the team of District Administration who conducted the raids in various government offices, but surprisingly no action has been taken against them while at the same time district administration suspended five teachers in Drabshalla Education Zone for remaining absent from their duties.
The ZEO Marwah was even seen sulking in and around the office of Chief Education Officer Kishtwar situated within the premises of high profile DC office complex Kishtwar monitored by 24X7 under CCTV Camera surveillance while the schools under his direct control are still closed as a result of which thousands of poor students studying in these government run schools as they have no other option since the people in these areas are very poor with almost no private school facilities available in these areas.
Speaking to Early Times, the local Sarpanches and locals allege that the schools in Marwah education zone lack basic facilities as well as their is acute dearth of staff in these schools while at the same time majority of the employees posted in these schools mostly remain absent from duties throughout the year.
They said that the people of Marwah Education zone are surprised to see that despite remaining absent, most of these employees manage to withdraw their salaries with active involvement of concerned drawing and disbursing officers commonly known as DDOs.
The people said that they brought the matter into the notice of senior officials several times, but they too turned blind eye towards the suffering of the common poor students adding that instead of taking action against these erring officials, the senior officials of Education department are protecting them by one or other way.
The people also inform favouritism on part of the ZEO who selectively release the arrears of only one KVBG teacher while left six others in lurch, the reason best know to the officer at the helm of the affairs.
They called for constitution of high level committee to look into the functioning of the schools in Marwah Education Zone.
The locals inform the Early Times that the free books supplied by the government for distribution among the students is yet to be distributed among the poor students added that what is the fun to provide the books if these books didn't reach to the students well on time.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara immediately took up the matter with CEO Kishtwar and directed him to airlift the books and distribute the same among the needy students. In response to the question about the closure of schools and sulking of concern ZEO in Kishtwar, DC Kishtwar assured that he will look into the matter.
