In permission for oxygen units, furniture factories allowed to resume work in Kashmir
Ye Kya Ho Raha Hai!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 24: In brazen violation of norms, the authorities in Kashmir have allegedly allowed factories manufacturing furniture to resume operations in the category of units manufacturing essential commodities.
Official documents as seen by the Early Times show that the government had granted special permission for some of the factories in Kashmir dealing with essential services to resume work.
It is pertinent to mention that as all the commercial activities have been shut across Kashmir, the permission was granted for factories dealing with the manufacture of medicines, health related items and oxygen gas in particular to resume work.
But sources said the order meant for industrial units dealing with manufacture of medicines and oxygen gas has been misused to benefit “some influential businessmen” who don’t manufacture medicines or oxygen.
Sources said the decision has drawn severe criticism from the industrialists who said why were some particular industrial unit holders being benefitted in the garb of essential services.
Sources said the industrialists have picked up the issue with the concerned authorities in the department.
Official sources said the main plan of the administration to allow resumption of work of some of the factories was to ensure that essential services don’t remain affected in the wake of lockdown.
“Around two dozen of the industrial units in Kashmir dealing with the essential services were given permission to resume work, but how do furniture factories fall in that category is really doubtful,” said some unit holders.
“If one furniture factory can be allowed to resume work, all such units should be allowed to work. Why this discrimination and favoritism,” the factory owners said.
When contacted a senior official there was some error in the first order and that a second order has been issued to make the said clarification.
“This is an old issue and has been resolved,” the official said.
