Anantnag, May 1: Despite clear-cut directions from the higher authorities, the administration in Anantnag district of South Kashmir has again failed to take over some private nursing homes for providing exclusive treatment to pregnant women who report from Red and Buffer Zones of the district.
On Thursday, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K. Pole had regretted the death of pregnant women at Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag and directed Deputy Commissioner to take over a private nursing home for providing ‘exclusive’ treatment to pregnant women from red and buffer zones, however sources revealed to Early Times that on Friday the administration although discussed the issue but didn’t arrive at any conclusion.
“DC Shab conveyed a meeting related to the issue. CMO Anantnag provided list of Nursing Homes to Deputy Commissioner Anantnag,” Highly placed sources revealed to Early Times.
They said that in the meeting, DC Anantnag conveyed the officers that he will personally visit the Nursing Homes and after deliberations will choose one among them to provide treatment to pregnant women who report from Red and Buffer Zones.
Sources claimed that the administration is moving at snail’s pace and is wasting time unnecessary. “DC Anantnag should have directed CMO Anantnag to turn up with complete details or directed him to send the complete details through WhatsApp and the issue should have been settled today. At least they can take over two nursing homes for the purpose,” they added.
Sources claimed that most the officials including officers from health department posted in Anantnag are cooperating with Deputy Commissioner Anantnag.
“The blunders committed by GMC Anantnag and Health Department have not only put the administration in bad light but also helped spread of COVID-19,” sources revealed, adding the increasing number of cases in Anantnag has worried the residents who now openly express anguish against the district administration.
On Friday evening, a senior officer from the district administration informed Anantnag residents that a separate hospital will be established for pregnant women belonging to Red and Buffer Zones areas. “Separate Hospital on anvil for treating expecting women and conducting LSCS for COVID19 Positive cases,” he wrote on Facebook.
Worth to mention here, in a tragic incident, a pregnant lady and her twin babies had died at Maternity and Child Care Hospital last week. The family later alleged that they were illtreated at Hospital because they had come from ‘Red Zone’ area of the district.
After her death, the authorities at GMC Anantnag decided to take the samples of the deceased lady as she had came from coronavirus infected area of Kokernag which the administration had declared Red Zone.
A day later, COVID-19 Nodal Officer at CD Hospital Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan confirmed to Early Times that the deceased lady had tested positive for coronavirus. The officials at Maternity Hospital said that they sent five doctors and three paramedical staff members in quarantine as they had treated the deceased lady.
On Wednesday last week, the doctors and paramedical staff at MCH Anantnag protested and demanded safety gears and a separate a facility to be established for treating pregnant women who report from Red Zones, however the administration despite the passage of over 6 days has failed to decide.
