PDP middle rung leader seeks self-promotion, hijacks party
Media cell in doldrums, senior leaders nowhere

Early TimesReport

Jammu, May 3: Already in disarray, the once ruling party of Jammu and Kashmir-PDP- has been scandalously hijacked by one of its middle rung leaders who while seeking self promotion has become party’s unsolicited face in the media.
This middle rung leader in question has been religiously issuing statements to press on almost each and every issue, sometimes moonlighting as a philanthropist and at times an RTI activist asking the government to make the expenditure incurred during the ongoing pandemic public. Through one way or the other, this leader in question is striving hard to stay in the limelight.
However, all this is being done by him in the name of the PDP. The leader is brandishing his views and his demands as that of the party’s suffixing his every statement with the PDP.
Recently, the party came out with a detailed statement, declaring that none other than the party spokespersons are authorised to issue the policy statements and that handouts issued by the party leaders at a personal level should not be mistaken as that of the party’s stand or views.
“There is no one in the PDP camp issuing any statements at present except one party functionary. He is issuing absolutely bizarre pressnotes to the media, sending the pen pushers into tizzy. It looks like he is the only man speaking within the PDP ranks. All other leaders seem to be in slumber. One man has hijacked the party to the core. It is indeed a bad time,” says a scribe working for a New Delhi based newspaper.
Meanwhile, a senior PDP leader divulged that chaos has engulfed the party and discipline has gone for the toss within its ranks. He added that there is no mechanism to issue the press statements and this one particular person masquerading as a senior PDP leader is not infact holding any significant post within the party. “He is a bygone in real terms. In the year 2018, the party was about to expel him for anti-party activities but was saved by the timely apology. The confusion within the rank and file of the PDP is disturbing and merits concern,” said the leader.
Another senior party leader added that it was unfortunate to find absolutely no traces of the PDP in the public eye with senior leadership confused and workers perturbed. He maintained further that it was ironic to find one party leader indulging in self-promotion while using the name of the PDP in the press notes. “This typifies the entire situation within the party. These are truly bad times for the camp,” he added.
Pertinent to mention that party has already been battling rebellion within its ranks since it was ousted from power in 2018.
