J&K Congress condemn Pak for border shelling, seek compensation to victims

Jammu, May 8: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Congress on Friday condemned Pakistan for continued heavy shelling in the border belt of Rajouri and Poonch districts resulting into civilian injuries and loss of precious lives besides damages to the property and crops.
Blaming Pakistan for resorting to frequent Shelling, as over 1,460 such incidents have been reported in just four months while around 3,300 such incidents were reported last year, Senior Congress leaders have said the Govt of India has failed to contain Pakistan from increased mischief and misadventures on the border of JK and cross border infiltration and stepped up militant activities.
“The brave jawans and civilian population has been becoming the target of frequent Shellings, which has increased manifold, compared to the figures up to 2013-2014, and likewise the infiltrations and number of terrorists has too witnessed a steep rise,” they added.
The leaders said that the situation has worsened on many fronts and parameters, but the govt is only claiming through media that Pakistan has been contained and isolated, which is far from the ground realities and things have gone from bad to worse.
Seeking effective policies to deal with Pakistan to contain militancy and to ensure the safety and security of jawans and civilians on the borders and within the J and K, the senior leaders sought adequate compensation to each victim civilians, too, who are either martyred or injured and their cattle and crops are frequently damaged due to Shelling from across the border.
Senior leaders including former minister Shabir Ahmed Khan, former Dy Chairman Jahangir Hussain Mir, Former MLAs Ashok Sharma and Ch Mohammed Akram, Ch Shah Nawaz General Secretary PCC Ch Abdul Gani, Dist President Poonch, Ch Zaffaullah, Ex-General Secy, former DCC Presidents Rajinder Singh and Sain Abdul Rashid have issued a joint statement.
